Pink Eye Natural Cures
Overview:
Conjunctivitis, also referred to as Pink Eye and Red Eye, is the inflammation of
the conjunctiva (the outermost layer of the eye and the inner surface of the
eyelids).

Pinkeye has a variety of causes including viruses, bacteria, allergies, irritants
such as shampoo, dirt, chlorine, and smoke.

The viral and bacterial forms of conjunctivitis are contagious and can be
caused by coming in contact with an individual infected by Pink Eye.

Symptoms of pink eye almost always include redness, irritation, and watering
of the eyes. Symptoms such as itching and closing of the throat can occur too.
Lid swelling is also not uncommon. Most cases of Pink Eye clear up in about a
week.

Warm Compressions to Relieve Pain- Soak a washcloth in warm water before
applying it to your closed eyes. Your eyes should feel warm and comfortable
upon contact of the washcloth. It should be applied for 5 to 10 minutes at a
time, three to five times a day. Doing this can relieve pink eye pain and reduce
the redness.

Clean Your Eyes- You can aid the healing process of Conjunctivitis by keeping
your eyes and eyelids clean. Simply use a cotton ball soaked in clean water to
wipe the crusts away.

Avoid Pink Eye Spreading- You can avoid the spreading of pink eye by
throwing everything that comes in contact with your eyes into the garbage or the
laundry. Allowing another to share a towel or washcloth that has come in
contact with your pink eyes will likely cause it to spread due to the high
contagiousness of the disease.

The Goggles Cure- If you think the chlorine from the pool may be the cause of
your conjunctivitis, get in the habit of using tight-fitting goggles.

Don't Mistake Allergies for Pink Eye- A more severe itching of the eye or the
presence of a stringy pus within may be signs of allergic conjunctivitis caused
by summer pollen. In this case, the application of cold compressions rather
than warm ones to the eye may prove further beneficial in relieving symptoms.
You can soak a washcloth in cold water or use a soft ice pack.
